The Challenge

National Grid wanted to communicate a part of its operations that customers rarely see. Materials removed from service can potentially be recovered and recycled rather than sent to landfills, while the Investment Recovery program also creates opportunities to work with community organizations.

The challenge was to turn this behind-the-scenes operational process into an understandable and engaging corporate story.

The Video Solution

Media Stream documented National Grid’s Investment Recovery operation and showed how materials removed from the utility’s system are collected and recycled. The video also highlighted the people and community organizations involved in the program, connecting National Grid’s operational practices with their environmental and community impact.

The Result

The completed video gave National Grid a clear visual way to communicate an often unseen part of its operations. Rather than simply describing its recycling and community initiatives, the production allowed viewers to see the Investment Recovery program in action and understand its broader environmental and social value. The video also explained National Grid’s community commitment by working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities from organizations like ARC. The video was repurposed for internal communications explaining how employees can help with the Investment Recovery’s mission.
